Hello! My name is Kelly Bixler, and I am The Write Proofreader. I hold a BA degree in Applied Communication from Asbury College and I reside in central Kentucky. I absolutely LOVE to proofread and I am eager to help you with your writing project. I'd like to share a little bit about myself and why I am The Write Proofreader for YOU.
Humble Beginnings It all started over 30 years ago when my husband and I were in college and I would help him type his papers (on a lovely Smith Corona electric typewriter!). As I typed, I would make minor corrections to his spelling and grammar and even offer suggestions on better word choice, sentence structure, and other ways to improve the paper. I found that I had a natural knack for this and even enjoyed it. And my husband was thrilled when he saw his grades improve as a result of my editorial help. From there I began proofreading papers and manuscripts for friends and acquaintances, and eventually started charging for my services. My freelance proofreading business was born! Born to Proofread
I believe I am The Write Proofreader for you because I have what I like to call a proofreader personality. Focused, perfectionistic, detail-oriented, a book lover, a word nerd, a rule follower, and just enough OCD thrown in to make me dangerous! I was born to proofread. I just can't help myself. Misspelled words, dangling participles, and improper pronoun-antecedent agreement shout my name—and I can't ignore them.
Seriously, I do believe that my affinity for the written word and its correctness is part of the fabric of who I am. It's in the genes. My dad and two uncles are published authors and both my sisters enjoy writing. I have been an avid bookworm since I was twelve years old—which means I have read many, many, many books in my lifetime! Good readers usually make good writers, and good writers usually make outstanding proofreaders. I am all three, and I am passionate about what I do. Plus, my clients love me! Over the past 20 years, I have edited manuscripts (fiction and non-fiction), textbooks, short stories, dissertations and essays, manuals, letters, website copy, grant documents, church publications and much more.
